Your message
Happy work anniversary, friend! 5 years on the team is something to be proud of. Thank you for the care you put into the work and for being someone people are glad to see in the morning.
Tip: These are templates written for this site. Read the message once and change anything that does not sound like you.
How do I calculate how long I have worked somewhere?
Count whole years from the start date, then whole months, then the days left. Starting on March 15, 2021 and counting to October 11, 2026 gives 5 years, 6 months and 26 days: March 15, 2026 is 5 years, September 15 is 6 more months, and 26 days reach October 11. The calculator does this with calendar dates only, so time zones and daylight saving time cannot change the answer.
What are the usual work anniversary milestones?
This tool lists 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years, and then every 5 years. That is a common convention, a rule of thumb rather than a rule: some employers mark other years or give awards at different points. Check how your employer counts.
What if I started on February 29 or on the 31st?
The tool applies one stated rule. A day that does not exist in the target month moves to the last day of that month, so a start on February 29, 2024 has its anniversary on February 28 in a year that is not a leap year, and a start on the 31st lands on the 30th or 28th when the month is shorter.
How do I write a good work anniversary message?
Say the number of years, thank the person for one specific thing, and keep it to three or four sentences. Use the generator for a first draft in a warm, professional, light-hearted or short tone, then change a few words so it sounds like you. You can also write for a company’s own anniversary.
How do I count the days between two other dates?
For the days between any two dates, or business days with a holiday list, use Day Counting at daycounting.com. This page keeps to time with an employer.
Questions about work anniversaries
Is the start day counted?
The total of days is the number of days from your start date to the date you count to, so the start day itself is not counted as a completed day. On the day of an anniversary the calculator says so and shows 0 days to go.
Does this decide my benefits or seniority?
No. Vesting, notice periods and other rights that depend on length of service are set by your contract, policy and the law where you work. Use this only to count time.
What if I had a break in service?
The calculator counts one unbroken stretch from the date you enter. Add your earlier stint separately if your employer counts it.
Is my start date stored?
No. The start date, the names and the message stay on the page and are not sent anywhere or placed in the web address.
Can I edit the message?
Yes, and you should. The templates are a starting point; the copy button copies exactly what you see.
Where do the templates come from?
They were written for this site. Nothing is copied from another site or list of messages.

Sources and limits
This page uses plain arithmetic on the numbers you type, so there is no outside source to cite. The method is described above.
Information, not legal advice. Your employer’s policy, your contract, your state or province and a union agreement can give you more than the minimum shown here, and rules change. Confirm dates with your employer and the official body before you plan or give notice. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
