3. Under the NPLA (New Parent Leave Act), one needs to be attached to an employer with at least 20 employees in a 75-mile radius.
If these demands are met, then the employee will be eligible for the much needed time off with a newborn.

• Have paid into State Disability Insurance (noted as “CASDI” on pay stubs) in the past 5 to 18 months.
• Not have taken the maximum six weeks of PFL in the past 12 months.

Can a Father Use his Short term disability for paternity leave?

Short-Term Disability is available to one who is unable to work due to a disability and has lost money because of it. One is only eligible after receiving at least $300 in wages. These state laws will also assist in pregnancy disability which can begin 4 weeks before birth and up to six weeks after.
